The New Poker Law for American Players

Summary of the 2006 Unlawful Internet
Gambling Enforcement Act.
The bill doesn’t directly ban an individual from playing poker or
gambling on the internet. Instead it targets the financial
institutions and puts restrictions on them funding online gambling
accounts. Banks and financial institutions are now required to monitor
transactions and block any transactions from payment providers for
online gaming.
The Act states that “No person engaged in the business of betting or
wagering may knowingly accept any money transfers in any way from a
person participating in unlawful Internet gambling.” However the act
is limited to Internet gambling businesses and does not target the
individual players.
